What We Do
Helping Orphans provides humanitarian aid to children living in Russia's orphanages.

Orphanage Assistance
Helping Orphans Progress Everyday Orphanage Assistance Program started when a group of adoptive parents wanted to
help orphanages in Russia by providing basic needs that would benefit the children there.
With the help of volunteer adoptive families travelling to Russia we disburse donations to help acquire the
supplies necessary to promote the healthy development of the children living in orphanages. Some examples of
things we have purchased to make a difference in the lives of these children include safe playpens and
highchairs, warm clothing, diapers, developmental toys and outdoor play equipment.

Medical Aid
Helping Orphans helps to provide life-saving vaccines such as Pneumo 23 and Hiberix to children who are at
higher risk of exposure living in orphanage environments. Pneumo 23 is recommended for all persons 2 years
of age or older who are at an increased risk of having complications, or dying, from pneumococcal pneumonia
including children with chronic conditions such as heart disease, lung disease, kidney failure, or metabolic
disorders. Hiberix is used for preventing Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), a type of bacteria that can
cause potentially life-threatening diseases such as bacterial meningitis, bloodstream infections, and pneumonia.
Vaccines are dispensed and administered by one of our agents, Dr. Eugene Bykov in the Khabarovsk region.
Helping Orphans helps identify children with cleft lip and cleft palate living in orphanages that are in need
of life changing surgery. We coordinate with local Rotary Clubs in Russia to bring awareness to the difference
a simple corrective procedure can make in the life of an orphan and to help advocate for their surgery. We are
working to establish a more robust program in this critical area of need in partnership with
Smile Train. To read about one of our recent success stories go to the Smile Train
Blogspot.
